Information is the key to making good choices
Athletes are faced with many nutritional, dietary, and supplemental options each promising to make them bigger, faster, stronger, & better. The intent of this seminar is to provide some fundamental nutritional information from an expert in the field of Sports Nutrition, without the hype of a sales pitch.
Guest Lecturer: Ellen Coleman, MPH, RA, RD,
Ellen Coleman counsels athletes at The SPORT Clinic in Riverside California, and lectures extensively on the dietary needs of athletes and active people. She has consulted with the Los Angeles Lakers and Anaheim Angels. Coleman is an endurance athlete, having completed the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run) twice and has competed in numerous marathons and 200-mile bicycle races.
Coleman is a registered dietitian of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists (SCAN), a dietetic practice group of the ADA from whom she received the 1994 SCAN Achievement Award. She is also a board member of the National Council Against Health Fraud (NCAHF).
Coleman is the author of Eating for Endurance, 3rd Edition (Bull Publishing 1997) and co-author of Ultimate Sports Nutrition, 2nd edition (Bull Publishing 2000). She has also written continuing education courses on sports nutrition, cardiovascular nutrition and nutrition quackery for Nutrition Dimension. Coleman has been the nutrition columnist for Sports Medicine Digest since 1983.
Coleman earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif., a master’s of public health in nutrition from Loma Linda University and master of arts in physical education from the University of California at Davis.
