Here you'll find some rehabilitation exercises for the foot. As always, consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program. Use common sense and proceed with caution. If a movement feels difficult or causes pain, stop immediately.
Excercise Rehabilitation of the Foot:
In the most painful conditions of the foot, weight bearing is prohibited until pain has subsided significantly. During this period, a graduated program of exercise should be instituted. Exercises are divided into 2 stages. Each exercise should be performed 3 times a day with 3 to 10 repetitions of each exercise and should progress to 2 or 3 sets.
Stage 1
Non-weight bearing or early phase of the condition:
Writing The Alphabet:
With the toes pointed, write the complete alphabet in the air three times.
Picking up Objects:
Pick up 10 small objects (i.e. marbles) with the toes and place them into a container.
Gripping and Spreading:
Of particular value to toes, grip and spread your toes up to 10 repetitions.
Stage 2
When just beginning to bear weight:
Towel Gathering:
A towel is extended in front of the feet. The heels are firmly planted on the floor with the forefoot on the end of the towel. Then attempt to pull the towel with the feet without lifting the heels from the floor. Repeat 10 times.
Towel Scoop:
A towel is folded in half and placed sideways on the floor. The heel should be firmly on the floor with the forefoot on the end of the towel. To ensure the greatest stability of the exercising foot, it is backed up with the other foot. Without lifting the heel from the floor, scoop the towel forward with the forefoot. Repeat 10 times
